ok here is the deal. first off, i love open office and i have been using it since 1.13 or whatever versioning standards you used back in the 1.0 days but anyways. I have loved the new setup and eagerly awaited the release of 2.0 back when it came out. then you released 2.0.1 and i had to redownload the entire packed. then 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 came out and i had to do the same thing. then 2.1.0 came out and i downloaded the entire package again but THIS TIME you guys added and update button for when a new release became available. GREAT! i was loving that idea. i have been saying you needed an update tool since 2.0 came out and its finally here.
so the other day i read 2.2.0 was released and i was waiting for the update button to arrive. when it did i was happy. but...then it happened. i clicked the update button and it brought me to the homepage for open office and i was looking for that update...turns out that update was in the form of a complete download of the entire suite once again. and this is when i needed to say something. i love you guys and i love what you are doing but with an update tool i assumed it would just be the updates, not the entire package. now if the updates were so vast that it required a full download to install the new updates i can understand. but if you guys are just doing bug fixes and updates, write a full installer and an updater that patches the current version installed. now i know you are gonna say but people can have multiple versions installed that would be impossible to code for each version update. so make a point of saying if you dont have 2.2.0 installed you cant download JUST the updates, you need the full install of 2.3.0. but if you have 2.2.0 installed, download and install the 2.2.0 to 2.3.0 update patch. im not sure how much work would have to go into this considering all of the localization stuff you do along with all of the porting you do to all the other OS's but you guys have the chance to make OOo the premier choice in office suites and every little step counts. take care and thanks for all the work you guys have done. its much appreciated. -- http://FenrisUI.net is the place to go for Tech News, Hardware, Software, Reviews, and Tutorials for all things Tech
