OpenOffice.org better than MS Office? Sorry, but that made me LOL. :-D
MS Office < 2003 better than OOo? That made me LOL. It isn't. Perhaps it is opinion, perhaps it is the consensus of almost all who use it...my teachers, my fellows, my friends...
You did say you were a "student of computer studies"? Do you realize how many lines of code would need to be re-written?
Yes, I do realize. It would only be for the better. After all, there are new softwares being written all the time.
Well, the good news is that OpenOffice.org might wake up and (badly) copy an actually good word processor: *WordPerfect*. Nah, aint gonna happen.
That is what is so sad about it.
You do realise that the default document type in MS Office 2007 IS NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE with previous versions unless you download and install a converter? And that this converter is NOT available for Office 97 or 2000? There also have been many complaints on the office newsgroups about this so-called "revolutionary" interface. Also bear in mind that 75% of users of ALL office suites only use 25% of the available functionality. many people are NOT going to fork out the vast sum of money needed to buy Office 2007 for less than a quarter of the functionality.....
I've been using Office 2007. Let me tell you that it is fully backwards compatible. In fact, to avoid backwards compatibility issues, it even saves the new format files as *.docx instead of *.doc. I should know. All my file library is in Office 97 and 2003 format. As for the complaints, well, you can never please them all. You must not forget that the reaction that Office 2007 is facing is exactly that which all new radical designs face. As for the 75%, 25% stat, I agree with you there. Point taken.

OpenOffice.org better than MS Office? Sorry, but that made me LOL. :-D Disclaimer: I think MS Office (except Excel) is pretty bad, but OpenOffice.org is *even worse*! > ... a new version should be developed from ground up, You did say you were a "student of computer studies"? Do you realize how many lines of code would need to be re-written? You *have* heard of Joel Spolsky, haven't you?
