Dear OpenOffice:
First of all, I think the product is terrific! I am currently using
it to write a book, which is going quite well.
I have two features I'd like to suggest for Open Office Writer
1. When you click and drag text, then right click for the menu, one
option is "Case/Character". I believe an option should be added for
the option of changing the case of the text highlighted to "Initial
Caps." I am using a lot of ships names in my book and I often have to
go back and make the names initial caps.
Although you can't do this from a right click you can do this as follows
(found in OOo help):
Choose *Format - Character*, click the *Font Effects* tab, and then select
the type of capitalization in the *Effects* box. "Capitals" capitalizes all
of the letters in the selection. "Title" capitalizes the first letter of
each word in the selection.
If you think that accessing this function from a right click would be
beneficial to other users, you can lodge an enhancement request. If it gets
enough votes it may appear in subsequent releases of OOo.
2. When changing font, I go to the tool bar and click the down arrow
next to the font. This brings up a list of the available fonts. It
would be a great help if this list placed at the top the several most
recent fonts being used in the document. As it is, each time I want
to change fonts, I must manually search through the list to find the
font that I just used a few paragraphs before.
This is currently supported. Look under tools > options > OpenOffice.org >
view and select "show font history". This will bring all used fonts (after
you've used them once in a document) to the top.
