Hello there,
I had a long talk with Bernhard yesterday about the Art project, as he
definitely knows more about it than I do, and he also has experience
from last years try to set up an independent Art project.
He convinced my in my fears that we still have too less people actively
contributing, so setting up Art as an independent project is likely to
fail. Well... to be honest, I'm no expert in this. I see Bernhards point
(he basically shares my fears), and see your points, which are not bad
either.
I agree that it sometimes can be a chicken and egg problem, that
promoting a project needs active people, but that active people come
there when they see the promotion. However, I still think that setting
up an independent project requires more than three or four people. We
need a hand full of people saying yes, I'd like to contribute in an
active way.
Doing things like roadmaps, regular meetings etc. can also be done with
Art as subproject of the marketing project. So, my proposal would be to
leave Art in its current state as subproject, but that these people
wanting to get an independent project try to start on it. Get roadmaps,
organize meetings, create an active community. When we have something
running, making an independent Art project should be no big deal. :-)
But, as I said, I'm no expert on this, and I don't want to have the
final vote on this - stopping people from activites is always a bad
idea, and definitely not what I want. :-)
What do others on this list with more experience in this area think? Do
you share the feelings, or do you think we should go ahead and just try it?
Florian
