I have been using OpenOffice for a while and I like it. But, there is a big problem with the spreadsheet. Every time I try to make a chart, and I have many points (>1000) the programs goes very slow or crashes. I think open office should have the option of not seeing the plot until is ready to go.
Have you tried the chart of OOo 2.3? For large data sets charts can still be slow at times, but in general there are some large performance improvements.
Actually, we already had the idea of rendering the view in a second thread, but it is not that easy, and apart from that there are still so many things to do in the queue that this has to wait.
