It's a maybe an undiscovered fault in email technology.
Such autoresponds should have a tag which makes it possible for mailing lists to filter them out.

They are often seen as good business practise, something like:
"I'm sorry, i'm out of the office on holiday until 2008-01-15. Please
contact the office in this way ... or contact me on my mobile..." Makes
sense EXCEPT when the email address is subscribed to a list.
