Hello.
I am posting this mesage to this list, as I understand, from what I have
read on the Open Office web site, that this is the appropriate forum for
making suggestions to improve Open Office.
I currently use Open Office 2.0.4, running on Debian etch (Debian 4.0).
I have finally worked out why the spellchecker in the word procesor,
wasn't working - apparently it only works when the language selected is
USA, and not UK English.
So, I thought that I would try to find whether an upgrade for Open
Office, is available, in case a leter version that is avaiable, includes
spellchecking using UK English.
On the web page at http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/index.html , it
shows that a version 2.2.13 (DEB) is available for Linux.
I assume that the "DEB" refers to a Debian version.
However, the download is not for a .deb package, but is for a .tar.gz file.
As the installation of software throough a package manager, thus
installing .deb packages on Debian, is much simpler than using .tar.gz
files, my suggestion is that providing Open Office versions as .deb
packages, would make installing and updating/upgrading Open Office,
easier and more accessible.
Also, making the spellchecker work for UK English, would make Open
Office more useful.

Hi Bret
Would you like an Aussie dictionary, rather than UK?
Look at http://www.justlocal.com.au/clients/oooau/
You can also install dictionaries for many languages using
File-Wizards-install new dictionaries.
You need to make sure the language setting for your text corresponds
with the dictionary you set in Tools-Options-Language Settings.
