.Pub files would take a huge amount of work to reverse engineer. There are likely better ways of spending that resource. Most desktop publishing professionals use Quark Express and that class of application. There's not much in Publisher you can't do in Writer/Draw and there is Scribus too. Since Word can't import Publisher files (can any app?) and MS have the formats it's probably too big an expectation for the project.
