The OOo (OpenOffice.org) mailing lists constantly receive posts
about the large size of the file users have to download. Including
all the possible "extras" (eg. templates, clipart, etc.) that users
"might" want, would at least double the size of the download.
Microsoft's equivalent program is supplied on recorded media, so MS
throwing in a few extra "goodies" costs the buyer nothing more than
the hundreds of (Dollars, Pounds, Euros) they have already paid.
OOo (OpenOffice.org) adopts a different policy, in that the user
can download the base software for free and add whatever "extras"
they choose.
So should we discuss bundling a set of stuff and have a second
obvious download button on the download page? "Templates, Graphics
and Extras" as a seperate download zip and let the user decide. Is it
worth suggesting to the project that run the website?
There is also http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop which is a version of
OOo which has extra templates, clip art, etc.
While KAMI and his colleagues are willing to make this, probably no need
for an "official" project. Unfortunately, as this is unofficial, there
is no promotion of it from the OOo website.
Even the Sun Template pack
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/SunTemplatepack_1
is not well promoted, I had to do a search for templates on the
extensions page to find it from the OOo home page.
