OpenOffice.org certainly has a word processing component called "Writer"
The question of grammar checking has been hotly debated. There is an
extension at http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/languagetool
This supplies some elementary grammar checking. I have not used it in
the past, so just installed it, and it found missing closing quotes, but
several "non-errors." My wife as an editor is much more effective!
It is all free except for download requirements, so why not give it a
try? Get it from http://download.openoffice.org/
