Hi there,

A frequent Calc user, I realised a couple of new features (similar to Excel)
would be extremely helpful :

1/ allowing users to create DataPilot in a spreadsheet separate than the source
data.
I think this would be all the more useful that Calc spreadsheet tend to use a
lot of memory (and the application crash rises in proportion) when the sheets
contain lots of data (like 10,000+ rows e..g.) and formulas. For example, this
would enable having datasets in separate files and draw statistics from them in
a distinct file. All of those file would open and save way faster.
MS Excel has a point there, the application can take a lot of data before and
pivot tables it's impacted by memory issues, so that would be a good win to me
for OoO.

2/ another (related) interesting feature would be the option available to users
to auto-save files into separate files to a specified folder at regular
intervals. so that in case of application crash and the backup is corrupted,
user can retrieve an older version, rather than nothing. This feature exists
e.g. with Quark XPress and proved very helpful to me, so much so I wished the
equivalent existed in OoO when I was dealing over the past months with huge
Calc sheets containing DataPilots and loads of formulas linking those files
together, that frequently crashed the application.

I had a quick look at the issues already in the pipe, and did not see anything
like the suggestions below, but, in case I missed something, I apologize in
advance.

Cheers
n/
