OOo releases are usually offered via torrents as well - however many
users
still prefer to download the 'old fashion way' instead of installing
another
application just for the download.

Remember the site downturn is because of amount of users hitting the site
(not downloading the software).
The software are usually distributed by mirrors however intense traffic on
the web (just going to www.openoffice.org) will make the site crash if you
get it done by enough people.
