I know that there are many people that prefer the simple interface of
the current or past OO interface. I don't want you to take away that
option for them. However, I am one that would prefer a more modern
interface. I find the grey color(s) very boring and so last century. I
would like the option of changing the menu areas (and other similar
areas) into a variety of other colors like Black, Blue (light and dark),
and neon green. It would also be nice to be able to skin it, like you
can with WinAmp. Can someone create a program where people can create
their own skins???
I have discovered that we can change the color of the page and the color
around the page(s). However these are only solid colors. I would like
the option to import a photo as the page background.
Although the buttons look fine the way they are, I would prefer buttons
that are more "cool." It would be nice if we had more "bubbily" options
in buttons. On various websites, for example, various people have
created ICON sets. One example of this is a Batman themed Hard Drive
set. One day, it would be cool if I could download and install a Batman
themed floppy disk and use that as my SAVE or SAVE AS button. Or better
yet, since no one uses floppies any more, why not make it a HDD or flash
drive now.
This is very interesting and you can do the same in OOo if you go to
options you wil find some themes that are pre-builted, if you go to
Program Files/OpenOffice.org3/share/config/ you will find zip files with
all the iconset. You are more welcome to build your own, however most of
the iconset are very very intensive. Meaning there are at least 80 icons.
I guess with an extension you will be able to pull down these iconset
themes. The toolbar colorset is also defined by a hex value on the XML for
wigets. You can even custom paint buttons on the interface when you do the
Basic IDE. However I had found that this can also conflight with the
naturalization modules to theme with the OS.
I know the GUI isn't the #1 issue to worry about, but maybe it's at
least in the top 20.
The only part of OO that I use at the moment is the Writer. Is there
any chance that OO can create a smaller download file for those of us
who just want the Writer, and not the whole suite??? That would be
sweet! It would be a quicker download (using less bandwidth and server)
and a quicker install.
Thanks!
