ODF 1.2 does not define formulae so MS simply freeze the cell with the last known result. That is not an extension simply a minimal application of the standard. They could of course support the OOo formula format so that if the file was exported and used in any other application using the OOo formula format everything is preserved. But they will claim that this is not part of the odf standards so they don't need to do it.
