Dear Herr Dippold:

It seems to me that you are trying to create/collect a collection of
Oo-related tools that you can publish on a CD, possibly to raise funds in
support of Oo??

This is a laudable objective, although I think you will need more than a
mere CD to handle it, especially as this has a better potential ongoing.

I have created many of my own tools from the pre-computer days on, and the
Open office environment is just an extension of that.

Currently in my own templates folder, which is shared on my network between
Win XP, Win Me and Fedora 12, I see a total data size of about 170 Mb. This
is constantly being updated.

The Hierarchy is as follows:

Templates
        Confidential templates
        Folder and package templates
        Microsoft office templates
        Open office templates

And a long diverse list of other templates spanning many diverse
applications.

Under the open office templates heading:

        Calc (spreadsheet) templates
        Impress Templates
        Oo Base Templates
        Oo Draw templates
        Writer ODT Templates.

This branch alone is 143 Mb. With a file count of 141.

This does not include:

Custom colours and gradients I have created which apply to all of Oo
by default.
Independent support information which may relate to either/or Fedora
& Windows.

These are included in my support files that have a data size of 5.45 Gb and
a file count of 8,514. Hence these alone would have to fit on a DVD-DL and
would not update nicely as there are no DVD-DL-RWs. These are also subject
to ongoing update.

Hence, I wonder if this could be turned into an SFTP server with the
appropriate RPM to support cross-platform usage as a Linux repository as
well as a Windows accessible site.

Since Oo also can operate in the Mac OSx environment, it would also need a
Mac user as a collaborator to maintain the ongoing rendering of these into
Stuffit archives after having established the appropriate Mac forks in each
file, although it may be expedient on some cases for each Mac user to
establish their own forks to suit individual needs. (Tiger and up, please).

Such a site would maintain a membership with a modest monthly or similar
charge, enough to self-finance its costs and provide what financial support
its market would bear to the Open Office development projects as a
non-profit corporation.

In addition to the download areas of this server, each member would have
access to an independent upload area so that ongoing contributions could be
moderated prior to release for securities' sake and offered caveat emptor,
as usual.

However, in writing this, it occurs to me that something like this probably
already exists, and the 2 efforts may need to be homologated, rather than
reinventing the wheel when it may not be necessary.

Cheers all,

Bruce Martin

Do you know about the extension repository ?

They provide voting results
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/highestratedreal

as well as download numbers
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/most_pop_ext

This might serve even better than a poll here on the list.

For templates there are similar pages on the template repository
http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/highestrated
http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/mostpopular

I'd like to ask people using some extensions or templates to vote for
them on the repositories, so the votings would become more valid just
because of the higher number of votes.

Best regards

Bernhard
