Usually, the best way to bring new ideas to the developers is to use
issuezilla. You have two ways to achieve this:

1) you can go to qa.openoffice.org and use the link under "Project
tools" in the left sidebar or use the "big" link that's called "Report
a Bug" in the main site

2) you can go to de.openoffice.org and click on "IssueTracker" under
the heading "Mithelfen" (second link in that list).

You can also join the appropriate mailinglists, for example
[email protected] (international developers list) or
[email protected] (german speaking List for organising the
de-project).

I'm not 100 % sure, but doesn't "Window > Split" (Fenster > Teilen) do
what you want? I'll check later and will tell you if I have a solution
for this. ;)
