Hi all,
Today, on the European Day of the Languages, the project OpenTaal
(www.opentaal.org) has released a new version of its Dutch spell
checking dictionary.
This new version was again successfully certified by the Nederlandse
Taalunie (Dutch Language Union, the institute that maintains the
official Dutch spelling)
More than 50,000 words were added to the dictionary. Also, the
Hunspell dictionary supports recognition of compound words. The big
advantage of this is that much fewer correct words are rejected.
We very much need this for the English spell check dictionary. There is
far far too little support for compound words in the English version of
the program. I have had to add about 1000 words to my personal
dictionary, the vast majority of these are compound words. This is
keeping me from upgrading my version of the program, because I don't
want to loose my personal dictionary. That is another thing that needs
to change, the OOo suite needs to be made like most commercial software
where upgrades change ONLY the code that is actually revised and leave
everything else alone.
