Hi - yet again. First, a reminder that I said (my intro email) that (to me) OO is not intuitive. Looks to me like a techie solution written for techies (as I said before, I was a techie and then managed hundreds of them for years, so I think I know a techie-centric solution when I see one!).
So, why invent a solution that is more difficult than whatever already exists? Answer = Probably because some people so hate Microsoft (let's be honest, OO is really only competing with Microsoft because nobody else has a significant chunk of the market yet, though Google might one day) that they refuse to do what they've already done. But surely this is no valid reason to offer me a solution that's less efficient??? Proof? Take spreadsheets. You copy a cell using Control C and then you paste it. In Excel you hit Carriage Return (one click). In OO, you hit Control P (two clicks). And this is intuitive or efficient? Come on, it's taking me 100% more time to do a single action, so it isn't even slightly efficient, and it's hardly intuitive to expect me (a user) to think that a process would require me to do something that is patently inefficient! Then formatting. MS Word is not exactly elegant but it works. I am still struggling to determine exactly how to format in OO. No matter what I do, I struggle to discover what works and what is consistent (i.e. does the same wherever it should). I can't remember specifics and, if you've seen my other email, you'll recall that I'm still waiting, hang on a mo, ah yes, just 1 day left now (!!!), to complete my download of OO so it'll be a while before I'm able to install anything to find out what examples I can give y'all. Well, that all I have for now. Bring out the virtual stocks and put my virtual head in them so that people can throw virtual rotten apples at my comments. I'll virtually suffer any punishment for my sinful comments :-) Cheers all.
