Can the physical switch has the VM info corresponding to each physical port? For example, Server 1 serves VM 1 and VM2. It connects to port 1 in the physical switch. Server 2 serves VM 3 and 4 and connects to port 2 in the physical switch. How does the physical switch know VM1 and 2 are behind port 1 and VM2 and 3 are behind port 2?
