The Open vSwitch team is pleased to announce the release of Open vSwitch 2.5.0:

   http://openvswitch.org/releases/openvswitch-2.5.0.tar.gz

This release includes the highly anticipated support for connection tracking in
the Linux kernel. This feature makes it possible to implement stateful
firewalls and will be the basis for future stateful features such as NAT and
load-balancing. Work is underway to bring connection tracking to the userspace
datapath (used by DPDK) and the port to Hyper-V.

A few other feature highlights of 2.5.0 include::

 - Experimental support of OVN. OVN, the Open Virtual Network, is a
system to support virtual network abstraction. OVN complements the
existing capabilities of OVS to add native support for virtual network
abstractions, such as virtual L2 and L3 overlays and security groups.

 - Support Multicast Listener Discovery (MLDv1 and MLDv2).

 - sFlow agent now reports tunnel and MPLS structures.

 - Multiqueue support to vhost-user for the DPDK datapath.

 - And many others. See the full change log here:

The 2.5 series represents the new LTS (long-term support) branch. We will
continue to support the 2.3 series until August of 2016 and anticipate
releasing 2.3.3 in the next few weeks.

Enjoy!

--------------------
Open vSwitch is a production quality, multilayer open source virtual switch. It
is designed to enable massive network automation through programmatic
extension, while still supporting standard management interfaces. Open vSwitch
can operate both as a soft switch running within the hypervisor, and as the
control stack for switching silicon. It has been ported to multiple
virtualization platforms and switching chipsets.
