This mailing list is now being archived at
http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40ppig.org/ It is
expected that the archive will move to within the ppig.org
domain in the long-term.

Please contact me if you've saved all or most of the messages
from this list (and aren't using Netscape to read mail) as
I would like to add them to the archive.

At the risk of preaching to the converted, please consider
the following when composing your messages to maximise
readability.

Cutting down on spam:
+ Unless your mail address is already on your web site,
consider removing any mailto links in your mail/signature
   - otherwise your address will be picked up by programs which
collect addresses from web pages for spammers.

E.g., use [EMAIL PROTECTED] not mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Line lengths
+ Line lengths should not exceed 75 characters and should end
with a line break (by pressing return).

This prevents extra line breaks to be added resulting
  in paragraphs
that have lines seemingly chopped up at random and are
  really not so
  easy to read.

It also allows your message to be properly quoted with
a "> " at the start of each line.

Quoting messages
+ Quoted lines should begin with "> " - most mailers add this
automatically when replying to mail (or else there might be a
config option to set this up).

Some mailers recognise lines beginning with "> " as quoted
mail and will display them differently (e.g., in italics),
minimising what needs to be read in detail.

+ Retain or add in the original author's name so that their
identity is preserved for messages seen out of context or
   in a long thread. E.g.,

+ When quoting a message to reply to, remove everything except
what you're directly replying to and start your reply after a
blank line. Consider using "[...]" to denote deleted material
   in quoted text.

URLs
+ Please add URLs in the form http://www.site.com/ rather
than www.site.com - this is because some mailers convert
things that start with http:// to a clickable link.

Thanks.
