I'm also new to this list. I'm a sophomore taking up computer science and programmer psychology and productivity is something I'd like to really explore. I'll be graduating from college in two years, but I want to start doing research now. I've been reading books like The Mythical Man Month and Code Complete, and the gap they describe between average and expert programmers is astonishing. I want to know how I can help others - and myself - bridge that gap, and if there's any way I computer science education can be improved. In our university most of the computer science majors enter college without any programming background - pretty common in the Philippines, since computer education isn't well-established in the high schools and getting access to technology and skilled teachers is difficult. I know I'm just a student, but I want to find out how to get other people excited about computers and how to make it easier for them to understand. I've asked my professors, but they don't really know of a university that does research in this field. In fact, most of them were amused because it's a 'soft' area, with some thinking I should just stick to 'hard' CS - theoretical or applied.
