All, I have been touting the advantages of using results from cognitive psychology to improve software developer, to programmers I meet. If they want to know more what books do I recommend? "Psychology for programmers in 21 days" does not seem to have been published yet. I liked Cognitive psychology by John Anderson also Cognitive Psychology by Eysenck & Keane was quite good For more detailed material Judgment under Uncertainty by Kahneman, Slovic & Tversky is widely quoted, but I found their latest book Choices, Values, and Frames to contain more relevant papers. Thinking and Deciding by Baron is a very good, less formal treatment. Comprehension by Kintsch is interesting, but probably too detailed. There is always Weinbergs book The Psychology of Computer Programming, which is really sociology not psychology. Also I recently reread and it seemed strangely dated to me, although still a good read. The Empirical Studies of Programmers series (which are still in print, Amazon finally delivered my order for all of them) has some good papers. But I could not recommend any volume as being a riveting read. Of course there is the group psychology stuff. But I am sticking to my current neck of the woods for the time being. Any other recommendations and suggestions? Books still in print only please. The people I talk to are unlikely to have access to a University library, but they do buy books. derek -- Derek M Jones tel: +44 (0) 1252 520 667 Knowledge Software Ltd mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Applications Standards Conformance Testing http://www.knosof.co.uk - Automatic footer for [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] unsubscribe discuss To join the announcements list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] subscribe announce To receive a help file, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] help This list is archived at http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40ppig.org/ If you have any problems or questions, please mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
