Chris, I would call them observations rather than concerns (while academics may be concerned about being relevant to industry, industry has not such concerns about what academics do; well apart from spending the money that is paid in corporation tax and not delivering students with the desired skill sets).
>> academics don't have a clue about the issues that are important in commercial >> software development > >We're listening and are willing to be informed. My point was that 'you' are not listening and there is little motivation that might want to make 'you' want to listen. Learning about what goes on in industry and its interests requires a significant time investment. The dangers of only spending a few months and not learning the language are well illustrated by the Margaret Mead saga. The Fateful Hoaxing of Margaret Mead by Derek Freeman http://members.fortunecity.com/dikigoros/meaddebate.htm This up huge front cost is yet another hurdle in the way of any academic wanting to do commercially relevant research in software engineering. derek -- Derek M Jones tel: +44 (0) 1252 520 667 Knowledge Software Ltd mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Applications Standards Conformance Testing http://www.knosof.co.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PPIG Discuss List ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Discuss admin: http://limitlessmail.net/mailman/listinfo/discuss Announce admin: http://limitlessmail.net/mailman/listinfo/announce PPIG Discuss archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40ppig.org/
