Agreed, let's wait more before make a decision on "final" classes. I want to review the pointers that you sent before making my mind on this, also we will need some time to play with the numerous API changes in beta 18 (to be released tomorrow).
However, it seems better to be more conservative for 1.0 (using too many finalizations) because we can always relax the API for 1.1 depending on feed-back from users. The other way around doesn't work as well because existing code might break...
