My simple proposal was initially made through the WADL list [1], then
relayed by Marc Hadley on the W3C URI list where URI templates are currently
being discussed [2].

>From what I understood, additional parsing info inside the template variable
is not desired by the draft authors. Indeed, this metadata can also be
specified outside the template string, like in the WADL spec.
