Personally, I'd prefer to break an API rather than have to live with a hacked API forever. Since Restlet is currently a 1.x API, it's presumably in its infancy. Now is the time to rework it to make it better even if it means breaking some people's code. If they don't want to upgrade, well, they have the option of not doing so.
