Thanks very much for your help. Yes, in the mean time since I posted this 
message I came to the same conclusion too, however, using plain java objects 
with REST was really what was attracting me most with Restlet, so if I could 
find a way to avoid using forms altogether it'd be very nice.

Your last two points:
- What the extension for a serialized java object is or how to find the 
correspondence between mime and extensions.
- Why none of the examples seem to need this, but my code does.

summarize very well what I need to understand too right now. I feel the 
tutorials need more explanation on the underlying magic going on there too.

If any Restlet expert is reading this, could you give both of us a hint?
