Update. I've downloaded the xtreme 1.3.1 distribution and got the required jar file from there, so the class not found is gone.
Now I have NoClassDefFoundError sun.reflect.ReflectionFactory is a restricted class. Please see the GOogle App Engine Developers guide for more details. I think I might have reached the end of my experimentation with restlet.
