The college I used to work for is in the process of
bringing up a seperate wireless network. It will exist
so students can gain access to the Internet with their
own laptops while they are on campus.

What follows is their planned "Wireless Network Use
Agreement". It will be displayed in a captive portal.
If anyone has any suggestions for additions,
deletions, or modifications, I would be happy to take
them back to the college.

Thanks!

College
Wireless Network Use Agreement
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

1. Acceptable Uses
The College wireless network is provided to allow
access to the Internet. The wireless network has
limited bandwidth that is shared. As the number of
wireless users increases, the available bandwidth per
user decreases. As such, please show consideration to
other users and refrain from downloading large files
(music, video, and others) from the Internet.

2. Authorized Users
All College students, faculty, and staff may use the
campus-wide wireless network. Visitors may also use
the wireless network.

3. Wireless Devices
Any Wi-Fi 802.11b/g enabled device in the 2.4 GHz
frequency range with a web browser can be used on the
wireless network (laptop, notebook, tablet, PDA,
etc.). The College does not guarantee that your device
will operate properly. Each time you turn on your
wireless enabled device in a coverage area, you will
be automatically redirected to this wireless network
login screen.

4. Privacy and Confidentially
The privacy and confidentiality of data is not
assured. For security and network maintenance
purposes, the College’s Information Services
Department may monitor any component of the electronic
communication system at any time.
Use common sense in selecting material to view.
Display of offensive material in a public way may be a
serious violation of California Sexual Harassment Law
AB1825 and/or U.S. Title VII laws.

5. Security
Wireless networks are insecure. Your data is being
transmitted in clear/plain text if you do not see the
small closed padlock in the lower right corner of the
browser indicating SSL encryption.

The wireless network is behind a firewall, but
viruses, Trojan horses, worms, and other malware can
still infect your computer through email attachments,
hostile websites, and downloaded files. The College is
not responsible for any harmful code that you
knowingly or unknowingly obtain over the wireless
network.

Do not leave your equipment unprotected. The College
is not responsible for damage or theft.

6. Related Policies
For students and employees, this agreement has been
created to expand on the Computer and Network Use
Agreement.

7. Technical Support
General wireless network setup instructions are
available at the Library Reference Desk. You should
consult your device’s wireless network guide for
further instructions. The College does not service
personal computers nor provide technical support on
personal devices.

I accept the terms of this agreement.
                            I decline
