fry's and geeks have directional antennas.  Geeks has usb adaptors that have
external antennas.  or you can make a simpal antenna that is called a corner
reflector by taking your USB adaptor and a foot of tinfoil.  look up corner
reflectot on google.
as a last resort you could use a satalite tv dish swaping out the satalite
frontend with a usb adaptor in the same position.  I have used this type of
device at a 10 mile with good signal and have heard of over 150 miles with a
large dish.

Subject: [SCFN] Kind of off-topic: recommendation for wireless adapter with
directional antenna

Hi y'all:

Sorry to ask a kind of an off-topic question but I figured some of you would
have the right expertise.

(Long story short...) at my work I need to connect my PC to an access point
that is at another part of the building. My PC can see the AP but cannot
connect. I thought an easy solution might be to find a USB wireless adapter
with an external antenna. I thought one of the big brands (e.g., Netgear,
D-Link, Belkin) would make one, but I don't see one. Can you recommend a device?

Thanks,

-John
