Thanks for reaching out to SYN/HAK James! Some thoughts from my desk:
I live in Portage Lakes, and am a Board member of SYN/HAK, and am glad to be your acquaintance. I am a software engineer, who (through the joy of SYN/HAK) has popped his head out of the computer screen and is now appreciating talented individuals doing cool things. I'm trying my best to learn some ideas that I associate with; and am willing to share what I already know. You will feel right at home at SYN/HAK.. Our schedule is posted on our homepage. Plan to visit us soon (open hours are on our website), and members on-site can give you a tour of our facility, and instruments. Our fantastic fellow Board member Devin would definitely like to chat with you about everything metal! I don't know when, but my friend Beebe plans to stop by soon. He's from Norwalk (see this:http://www.midgetmotors.com/aboutus.html) and works on King Midget car parts; fabricates them. I can let him know that he has a peer in the area as he would be glad to chat with you. He travels to Akron frequently for music, as he is a musician too. I believe he will be at the Cleveland Mini Maker Faire on 4/13 (see: http://makerfairecleveland.com/), if you are in the area, do plan to attend the free event. If you'd like to become an exhibitor and exhibit your steel sculptures that you may have created thus far, please contact James Krouse at [email protected] or at his telephone: 2166504942. You'd be glad to know that tonight, Ken Burns from Tiny Circuits ( http://www.tiny-circuits.com) will be speaking at Shaker Launchhouse ( http://www.meetup.com/IOTCLE/events/106430192/) at 7PM. Those are all the thoughts for now, if I think more I'll write more to the group. I have read about hackerspaces online and I've talked with some "makers" but i have not had the opportunity to get involved with your organization. I have always tinkered and worked on things which got me into engineering. I enjoy working on cars, motorcycles, and I've also created some steel sculptures. I also have some experience in sheet-metal work and machining. I will be moving to Barberton in May for work; after graduating with a degree in Welding Engineering Technology. I am looking for a way to meet new people with common interests, and this seems like a good way for me to share some knowledge, and maybe learn a thing or two. Do you have much interest in someone with my background? From your website it appears that your main capabilities are electronics and 3-D printing. Please let me know if you have any interest in my knowledge welding and metal fabrication. I look forward to hearing back from you.
