Greetings!

James:

Please consider joining SYN/HAK's mail list here:
http://synhak.org/mailman/listinfo to keep in touch with happenings at
SYN/HAK
Also, please update your address book with this email (gsvolt7 at gmail)
which is my personal email for all things SYN/HAK (mostly after Cleveland
Mini Maker Faire).

SYN/HAK:

Say hello to IngenuityFest organizer James Krouse!

James asked us:

Hey Gaurav --

I wondered if we could talk re IngenuityFest to see if we could get more
folks involved. I'm not sure if SYN/HAK would like to have a space but
we'd love to have them. If time commitment is an issue, I'm working on
reducing hours for the Make Space at Ingenuity and could work with the
group on creating smaller events if that's desired.

Ingenuity Fest 2013 is different this year.
Exhibitors (individuals as well as companies) can have goods for sale,
compared to last year where it was forbidden. Mostly, the organizers have
to determine fit/not-fit from the festival's standpoint. So, feel free to
checkout their call for makers here:
http://ingenuitycleveland.com/call-for-the-2013-make-space/

Would definitely like to meet with you in person about everything below.

My thoughts are:

- If there's a maker, or company in Summit County (or NorthEast Ohio) that
can make a project display worthy, other volunteers can jump in and
showcase them at Ingenuity Fest if maker's don't have hours available to
attend. (This might be me.. we'll see)
- Ingenuity Fest will have attendees from Summit county, would help for
SYN/HAK to be represented and inform attendees about us.
- Forward this email with anyone you know who'd like to contact Ingenuity
directly.. I know there's a lot of people that might be interested
- My experience at cleveland mini-maker faire tells me that there's
definitely opportunity for makers to prototype on site and teach attendees
new and unfamiliar tools and technologies
- At yesterday's meeting, we discussed possibility for SYN/HAK to teach
soldering to attendees for a small fee, where they get to build and take
the WeeBlinky home - that would be great. We could potentially plan for
this if there's enough interest.
- 2012 make space photos:
http://ingenuitycleveland.com/2012-ingenuity-make-space-photos/ To get a
feel for what it was like last year
- This year there's an independent film festival as well: details here:
http://ingenuitycleveland.com/indiefest/ If you know movie makers in the
area, do tell them to submit their DVDs to ingenuity

Please consider this opportunity, get creative.

This year's Ingenuity Festival 2013 theme is Clouds:

 *2013 Theme: * *Clouds*

Head in the clouds. Cloudy thinking. Cloud computing. We have looked to
the clouds for centuries to dream and seek new heights. Today we look
toward the clouds as a space to store the information of our lives, as a
place to live and work. We also look to the clouds with hope and fear
seeing blue skies and gathering storms in our past, present, and future.

We are encouraging the creative Ingenuity community to explore the Clouds
from any and all angles. Whether it’s abstract or direct, this exploration
should be above all else, an exploration of new thoughts and ideas about
where humanity and technology meet within this space.

Random thoughts (delectable tangents?):

New York Maker Faire is the same weekend. Will Ingenuity be impacted by it,
I don't know - but I do believe that for those that wouldn't want to travel
all the way to Queens, NY - Ingenuity is the best venue locally to
participate in.

It would be cool launching a helium balloon.

Jeff the Quadcopter wrangler could demo his quadcopter.. and take our
photos outside if weather is nice.

A live demo of ham radios? Although that can be successful only if ham
operators are willing and in attendance.. as by law, I learned only the
operator can send and receive communication. It would be cool to let HAM's
in the area know about Ingenuity ahead of time and allow attendees to speak
with them. In the age of cellphones, people have all but forgotten the
radio waves.. would be a good demo.

I know Xander has a lot of activities usually that could be great to engage
kids with.

More from me on Ingenuity later. In the meantime, feel free to hit reply
and keep the ideas flowing!
