Howdy, all!

Sometime last month, someone in my neighborhood created a community for my
neighborhood on Nextdoor. Nextdoor is essentially a community-ran website for
neighborhoods where citizens can post classifieds, neighborhood events, local
news, etc. We currently have 23 households signed up, and I'm thinking that it
might actually be useful for us. I've been posting information to my
neighborhood such as local elections, neighborhood trick-or-treat times, city
council contact information, etc. When you post, you can limit your posts to
just your neighborhood, a selection of nearby neighborhoods, or the
neighborhood "leads" who act as moderators and community organizers.

If you live in a neighborhood and want to help out by making your community
moore informed and active, I suggest going to nextdoor.com and creating one.
The nextdoor team lists a number of items they plan on developing like adding
community gardens or other points of interest. I'm interested to see what
tools they come up with for local government engagement.

There is a mobile app for iOS and Android, and the android one is very usable.
If someone posts to the neighborhood I get a notification, and there is also
an option when posting to push out an alert SMS to everyone if something
urgent happens.
