Hi guys,

This is Janet Mader from Protospace in Calgary.

On December 5, the Mythbusters' Behind the Myths tour will be in Akron at
the EJ Thomas Hall. I have just pitched them the idea of having local
hackerspaces run information booths in the lobby to interact with the
audience before and after the show. I am organizing the booth for
Protospace here in Calgary and I was wondering if SYN/HAK would be
interested in doing one in Akron, should this idea get the go-ahead.

The basic thought is that their audience includes a lot of people who would
be interested in what our groups have to offer, making it a prime
recruiting opportunity for our respective Spaces, and a way for them to
connect their audience with the maker resources already present in their
own community.

I apologize for the short notice, the idea only got hatched this weekend.
Do you think you could arrange a booth with info, a couple of volunteers
and a few projects to show off within the next week, if they decide to go
for it? It may also be necessary to arrange Special Event Kiosk Insurance,
if your group's insurance doesn't already cover this type of outing.

My plan B if this really can't be made to happen is to ask them to allow us
to make our information pamphlets available at their merchandise table. Not
as engaging, but way easier to greenlight. I imagine you already have
something to that effect made up; if you can be ready to roll with 50-100
of them for the 1st, we can probably talk them into setting them out.

If you know of any other groups who might fit in well with this little
scheme, please forward this email to them, and have them get in touch with
me, as soon as possible.

I will let you know whether or not this is a 'go' as soon as I find out.

Even if it does not prove to be possible this time around due to it being
such short notice, we are laying the groundwork for this to this happen
next time they go on tour. There has been enormous buy-in from the
Hackerspaces that I've contacted so far.

If anyone has questions or wants clarification, my email address is
[email protected], and I can be reached by phone at 403 667 2038.

Thanks,

Janet
