I agree with Devin Wolfe that ALL donations, of any description and from any source, should be considered as SH property by default.
IMO, all donations should follow this path = 1. *acceptance* (with documentation, if necessary) 2. *isolation* (moved to a location at SH or elsewhere (ie Torrie's garage?) prior to Step 3) 3. *evaluation* (by SH maintainers, qualified/experienced members, or interested parties to determine the path of distribution 4. *distribution* (only four major choices) = (1) retained by SH for use by all (2) to the Hacking Pile for use by first to come, first to be served, member or non-member (3) retained by SH to sell stuff for operating funds, as an internal selling project by SH members or volunteers (4) relocate to a designated Junk Pile for ONE week, then to the dumpster for eternity. No labels required, no stickers required, no judgment errors by untrained or inexperienced SH members who happen to be at SH when the donation arrives, and no grabbing stuff by members or non-members or off-the-street homeless guys before proper evaluation. In the Army, last century, I was told over and over again to "never volunteer" for anything. That may have been good advice in that environment, but it does not hold up in my life today. Again, let me state my willingness to donate time and energy to SH in dealing with donations and to set up and maintain an online selling project to raise money for operating expense.
