Howdy, hakkers.

We can now start discussing an actual move in day and a subsequent open house
at 48 S. Summit. I've been told that all that needs done is for me to sign a
check for February rent of $500, and it will be hand delivered ASAP. Its
possible for us to have the space tomorrow.

I'm suggesting a Saturday, January 18th move-in weekend, with a Februrary 22nd
open house. That will give us two weeks to minimally build out the new space
with infrastructure, cleanup, painting, various repairs and modifications,
etc. It also gives us the same time period to wind down operations at 21 W.
North St, which includes cleaning up, sorting through piles of junk that we
don't want to take with us, putting things into neat boxes, and organizing a
brigade of volunteers to help transport our wonderful hackerspace down the
road.

If we are minimally prepared with at least 15 helping hands, I estimate that
we'd be able to move the whole space to the new building in the span of about
5 hours. It took about 7 people 3 hours to move out of 1456 Riverside, and we
barely packed anything up. This could be a sight to see, a continuous convoy
of hackers with a team at each building to load and unload vehicles non-stop
until we're done.

Here's what we'll need to do this:

* Lots of vehicles with internal space to move things. Maybe someone has
connections with a fleet of box trucks and vans?
* Some trailers and vehicles capable of carrying trailers
* Boxes! Lots of cardboard boxes!
* Cling wrap for securing loose projects, bins with drawers, etc
* Human equipment: Gloves for the movers, dust masks for the crew to clean up
21 W. North as we clear out
* A couple of people to document the whole event with photo and video
* Individuals willing to accept responsibility to devise an efficient plan of
transporting modules of the space. Electronics lab, machine shop, kitchen,
networking infrastructure, machine shop, etc.
* A general overseer to coordinate the project
* Celebratory beer and pizza for the end of the day

I think we are all very capable hackers. How many hackerspaces get to move
down the road, and have the opportunity to plan a hyper efficient plan of
packing up the whole space and transporting it into a time of 5 hours?

Lets talk about this on Tuesday. Aterwards we can split up the space into
modules and put people in charge of moving them safely and securely.

If you find my goals to be unrealistic, keep in mind that we have a total of
148 subscribers to both discuss@ and announce@. That doesn't count the dozens
more beyond the list who aren't subscribed but are still very good friends of
the space and would love to help.

Also remember that people didn't think Akron could have a hackerspace in the
first place. Its a strong sign of a vibrant space when someone e-mails noc@ to
check if the mailing lists are broken because its been quiet for a day.
