If this is difficult to explain to seasoned members, how difficult will it be to explain to new or potential members? I don't see a point in having a tiered system like this to allow for couples plans when it isn't meant to but will ultimately be used my single members. Also if there is talk of raising the basic membership rate by $5 and yet we discount like, does that seem a little redundant? And according to your graph I would pay less per month if I purchased two months at a time rather than three? Where is the benefit in that?
I say we keep it simple. I know you find this simple. But to others this may seem a bit overwhelming, hard to account for, and difficult to rationalize. We don't want make signing up too difficult, this isn't obamacare. My suggestion would be keep the 10% discount we currently going, and make the "rider" membership something flat rate and easy to account for. Say $15, a little less than half of current basic membership. While that is quite a leap from the numbers you have proposed, I feel a rider member at $15 is better than no rider. Be it because the price was too high, the payment plan was too complicated, or what have you. For couples or "Rider" members to fully take advantage of your price plan they have to have the cash on hand to afford the big discounts, negating the reason for have the rider membership.
