Honestly it depends on your environment and what your team knows best. If you are a Windows shop, throwing in a *nix box may not be the best thing, unless you have a uber *nix weenie in house. On the opposite side of the fence, if you have a *nix shop, go with that. It all boils down to cost. Cost can be support, purchases, training or time. You may have to hire new employees to support your server(s) as well. Cost.
