Yes, thank you Dean for the recommendation. And as Robert says, he did ask
me first (thanks for the vote of confidence), but I told him that, what it
sounded like he was looking for, was not quite what I want to do. I'm also
really very busy for the next several weeks.

But I do feel I should clarify that I didn't say I "only want to debug CF
issues". I said I don't want to build apps, or take over what others have
started. I instead want to help troubleshoot and tune them, as well as help
train folks, which all sound very different from what he's looking for (that
GC role that it's now being labeled).

I also didn't say "don't want to do DBA, DBDesign stuff."

I realize Robert was just writing what he took from my declining the work,
but I felt I should clarify these things. Indeed, I did recommend that he
ask here. Hope someone can help him.

Speaking of being busy, some may have noticed that I've not been too
involved in the list in recent weeks. Again, just no time to keep up. What
happened just now is my network connection went down, so I started reading
through list messages just to pass some time. It was total coincidence that
this was the latest discussion here. :-)

Already asked charlie. He only wants to debug CF issues.
My needs are more or a environtment configuration than just CF, but solid CF
skills will be needed.
He does not want to do DBA, DBDesign stuff.

You get what you pay for. I think this is best stated by the productivity
difference between a good programmer and a great programmer, I believe it is
10,000 fold or more. A good programmer thinks about the immediate future, a
great programmer thinks about the long term consequences of his or her
actions. Ther cost difference between them is, of course, not 10,000X, its
maybe 2 - 3X.

Hire a great programmer.

/me looks around for Charlie ;-)

I have decided that the only way I am going to get anywhere is to have
someone get things set up for me in this shopping cart. I just will never
have the time to do this and there is so much DB layout to do also. I just
need a part timer - contractor that can set things up, get me on track,
teach me how to manage upgrades and go from there but be available from time
to time.

We are not flush with money but we are very comfortable in the spring-fall
months. But we have to get our DB reconfigured.
I need to know how I should tackle this.
Should I hire a mid level / high level guy, should I hire a guru?
I need a real quote on what it would take to prep us for growth.

Again the scenario is:
MySQL
AbleCommerce

Upgrade DB table structure to accept more fields without breaking Able.
Script MySQL and make a restoration routine to allow upgrades of able (which
overwrite some DB structures potentially) to be reconfigured back to the
custom mode.
Build management of upgrades like SVN etc that will reinstantiate custom
internal code to upgrade new Able versions when rolled out.

Thats the big picture and my learning curve is too long and I can not afford
the time or the chance on breaking our production site to work with these
issues.
The CF training was helpful now that I know what it is and roughly what can
be expected of it.
I now have the skills to understand management of the development of an
intranet and theoretical functionality of CF and DB's but thats enough to be
really dangerous.

Can you all help me find the most cost effective solution to get where I
need to be as painlessly as possible?

Thanks.
