also, be sure to use connection pooling...aka 'maintain connections' in CF land. It was my experience to use the IP of the DB server too, not the DNS entry, in my past life we used the VIP of the LB. VIPs didn't change often enough tot worry about it, like 1 in 5 years maybe.
