Well if figured out the issue and here is what I did
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Audio Initiation" dataField="AUDIO_INITIATION"
sortable="false" editable="false">
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:Canvas>
<mx:CheckBox label="Click"
click="data.AUDIO_INITIATION_CLICK=!data.AUDIO_INITIATION_CLICK"
id="Audio_Initiation_ClickID" selected="{data.AUDIO_INITIATION_CLICK}" />
<mx:CheckBox label="Mouse Over"
click="data.AUDIO_INITIATION_MOUSEOVER=!data.AUDIO_INITIATION_MOUSEOVER"
id="Audio_Initiation_MouseOverID"
selected="{data.AUDIO_INITIATION_MOUSEOVER}" x="0" y="26"/>
</mx:Canvas>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:DataGridColumn>
The checkboxes are toggles, right? So onclick I toggled the binded data. I
really don't need an ID here but I put it there for habit sake. So now the
checkboxes work correctly within the grid and flow nicely.
Thanks for your email, it gave me a few hints :-)

Hey there. Thanks for the reply.
I've seen several examples like this and they work great. The issue comes in
when there are more than one checkbox per cell. I don't understand why I just
know that this has been something that has cried over since 1.5. Perhaps I
should come to the meeting tonight :-)

so that's what eyewonder does :) I recall seeing some job postings and
wondered is all.
how are you implementing the ckkbox in your DG? My first thought is you need
to override the data setter.
here is a example from a adobe member

Has anyone else experienced odd behaviors with checkboxes inside a Datagrid?
For example:
I have 5 rows coming back from the DB. I populate the datagrid correctly.
Some of the columns are checkboxes
I have a column named "Audio Initiation" it has two checkboxes in it. One is
CLICK the other is MOUSEOVER.
This is 5 rows. When you click on one of the checkboxes it affects the other
checkbox within another row. It's completely random. Here is my test website
http://www.franticphotos.com/0personal0/flex/bin/main.html
Once everything is loaded. Under search. Type yahoo and hit search
In the tree, click YAHOO!
Click on the banner tab on the right
Under Audio Initiation start clicking random checkboxes and you will see this
bizarre behavior. Why do you think this is happening?
