A side note of FLuorineFx, You dou not need to run the provided Windows
service unless you are running RTMP. You just have to have the assemblies.
You do have to take out the my-rtmp referecnes in your config files too.

Anyway, I'm running a FluorineFx app for a promotion of marine service
contracts off of the Boatrader,.com site for a product called I-Care
Marine. It's simple but works. Flex meets .Net (who needs SilverLight)

awesome followup!! this is a topic that comes up on other lists often,
so Google's gonna make this one popular.

Ok, first off, a newbie mistake. We needed to use FluorineFx instead of
Fluorine.

Secondly, in order to test in Flex Builder to the server remotely, in the
services-config.xml file, you need to hard code the uri to the app's
gateway url:

<services-config>
    <services>
        <service id="remoting-service"
                 class="flex.messaging.services.RemotingService"
                 messageTypes="flex.messaging.messages.RemotingMessage">
            <destination id="fluorine">
                <channels>
                    <channel ref="my-amf"/>
                </channels>
                <properties>
                    <source> *</source>
                </properties>
            </destination>
        </service>
    </services>
    <channels>
        <channel-definition id="my-amf"
class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
            <endpoint uri="http://www.mysite.com/myapp/gateway.aspx";
class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
        </channel-definition>
    </channels>
</services-config>

Then in your flex compiler settings you need to set the arguments:

-services service-config.xml (location of the the file I just pasted
above)
-context-root /myapp (root location of your .net app)

When you are about to deploy, remove the hardcoded uri and put back the
original
uri="http://{server.name}:{server.port}/{context.root}/Gateway.aspx";

Then compile and stick the swf out there and you're good to go.

This technique definitely works if one person is doing the front end; one
person doing the back end.

Thanks!
Sydney

Yeah, I have a mac. My husband is doing the backend and I am doing the
front end. Thought there would be an easier way. It was a piece of cake
in Flash.

Thanks.

I'm no flourine expert, but shouldn't a default channel already be setup
for this just like FDS/LCDS/Blaze?

On top of this, in FB project properties under compiler settings you will
need to point to a services-config.xml file and have that
remoting-config.xml file too I suppose. It used to be all in one file.
You will have to hardcode the server location in the channel definition
and recompile your swf. Also, I suspect you will need to add a
crossdomain policy file on your server too.

IMHO, much easier to just install the server stuff locally on your PC.
Mimics the way it will run on a server later anyway.

You'll need to add an AMF channel definition for your server and define

[AFFUG Discuss] Remoting on server; flexbuilder on laptop

Hey all,

I'm trying to get Flex to connect to a remoting service (Fluorine AMF)
from my laptop. The remoting service is deployed on a server and I'm
building my flex app on my laptop. Is there something special I need to
put in the service-config.xml file on my laptop? Or do I need to deploy
the .swf to the web server in order to test? Is there any documentation
out there I can look at?

I'm not a configuration wiz so please be gentle. ;)
