Hi folks, Since there's no job list per se for the group, I'll clutter up this one.
I'm looking for a Flash designer to partner with on a potential project. Just so I'm very clear: I've only had an initial meeting with the client. This is a project I'm trying to get, not one that I already have. So nothing's guaranteed at this point. But after the initial discovery meeting, it was very clear that I couldn't handle this one on my own, and I told the client so. He is looking to completely re-do his site, and although he didn't specify that it be largely Flash-based, it needs to be. All his competitors have sites that are heavily Flash-oriented, and he'll need the animation and interactivity to look as good as they. So here's what I'm looking for: someone who is very experienced in designing and building relatively complex sites that are heavy on Flash. The someone needs to be a designer first, programmer second -- mainly s/he needs to be a super designer. It would help if this person were also an excellent illustrator, 'cause we'll quite possibly need that capability, although we could add an illustrator into the mix. The design is going to be very, very heavy on 'attitude.' Think in terms of a music site for a metal band, although it's not a music site at all. The site will integrate e-commerce as well as some stuff like blogs and photo galleries. Again, a band site is probably a good reference point. Any experience in integrating such functionality within a Flash-based site would be helpful. The person needs to be very easy to work with. I spent a long time as a creative director, so I'm going to have design opinions. The client knows the attitude he's looking for; he says he's not going to tell us how to execute that attitude. But even assuming that's true, I'm guessing it'll take a us a few concepts and iterations to get going. I'll fight for your designs, if need be. But in the end, I need someone who can find a way to create something that s/he is proud of and the client is ecstatic about, rather than someone who simply sulks and disappears if their work is critiqued. I will provide for an iterative process in my costs and timetables. And we will make sure there are carefully defined approval steps and costs associated with those steps, so that if we hit an impasse, we and/or the client can choose to stop, and the client will know upfront what it will cost him. Now that I've made this so-o-o-o attractive by making it sound like the design process will be difficult, I should stop and say, however, I have no real reason at this point to think that it will be -- other than that the client describes himself as "kind of a pain in the ass to work with" ;-) The site will be, when finished, extremely cool, an excellent portfolio piece, for products that are light years away from the prosaic stuff we all work on most of the time. And finally -- while my hope is that there's somebody in the area who's perfect for this project -- if one of you has a friend elsewhere whom you'd like to throw into the mix, that's okay, too. Here's what I ask: Please reply to me, not to the list. You may reply to the GMail address that I'm sending this from, or to my main address, tom(at) mediumcool.com. Please don't call. Not yet. Write as much or as little as you want. I'm a big fan of "articulate," but I'm looking for a designer, not a writer. Please send a link to a portfolio, or to some samples. I'd like to know very specifically what your involvement was in the pieces you present. I'll answer everyone. I'll sort through the submissions, pick some folks to talk to, and we'll go from there. If any of this sounds like you, please let me know. -- Thanks, Tom Tom McNeer MediumCool http://www.mediumcool.com 1735 Johnson Road NE Atlanta, GA 30306 404.589.0560 ------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, simply email the list with unsubscribe in the subject line For more info, see http://www.affug.com Archive @ http://www.mail-archive.com/discussion%40affug.com/ List hosted by http://www.fusionlink.com -------------------------------------------------------------
