There aren't any text primitives in the Flex graphics APIs. Typically, you set text on some component, and add that component to the canvas.
The most primitive text component I am aware of is the TextField: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/text/TextField.html http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00000219.html Otherwise, you are reduced to creating your own stick-figure characters via the 2D graphics APIs.
