You will need an ItemRenderer on that and if only two options (deleted or not)
a simple boolean switch should work.
Google Flex ItemRenderer for examples or look in the docs.

Subject: [AFFUG Discuss] styling an individual list item in a datagrid.

  Hi everyone,

I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!

Problem: I have a datagrid which is bound to an arrayCollection. Some of
the items in the Collection are marked as deleted. I want those items to have
a different background color.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how I can achieve this? I've
explored the labelFunction property. However, labelFunction allows for the
manipulation of the data (text) and not the manipulation of styles.

  What can I do here?

I've attached 2 graphics to illustrate...
