That is often the case when dealing w/xml data.  When the xml is
deserialized, if there is one item, a ObjectProxy instance is created,
w/another ObjectProxy inside it.  When there are mult items, an
ArrayCollection is created instead, containing mult ObjectProxy
instances.

We have a lot of code that checks incoming data, and if it is an
ObjectProxy on the outside, we replace it w/an ArrayCollection.
