Ok -- I guess I misunderstood. I thought *that* was the bad practice. :-) Public functions, in general, I mean.

But that's easy enough to do... (In fact, as a workaround, so I could make some progress while waiting for a response, I went ahead and did that -- thinking I was going to have to remove this terrible piece of programming later.)
