Certainly, there are no problems with using ColdFusion as a backend to Flex
apps, with SQL Server as a database. I do it all the time.

Depending on your needs, something like WebOrb may not be necessary, since
ColdFusion has built-in gateways to serialize/deserialize AMF packets to and
from Flex, and some fairly simple ways to get CF and Flex to recognize
objects that are being sent back and forth. And of course, there's BlazeDS.

ColdFusion can easily work with SQL Server, or MySQL or Oracle, or other
databases.

"Best," of course, just depends on your needs and skills. .NET or Java or
PHP, as well as ColdFusion, are completely suitable for Flex front-ends and
SQL Server databases.

As far as pricing on Flex Builder 4 goes, it hasn't been announced. I'd
suggest watching as the Adobe MAX conference approaches.

There are likely to be a few product introductions there, though Adobe is
not saying.
