Hi all,

as some of you maybe heard a relatively new political party is hugely
successful in Germany at the moment, the Pirate Party. In the regional
elections in Berlin (city & state) they got 9 percent of the votes and
all the rest of the political landscape is .. amazed. The pirate party
is basically a geek party and there's a lot to be said about them that
I'm not about to get into now.

See e.g.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/sep/18/pirate-party-germany-berlin-election
,
https://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/20/world/europe/in-berlin-pirates-win-8-9-percent-of-vote-in-regional-races.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

I'm writing this email because along with being nerds they're almost
100% white male middle class. Of the 15 new members of the Berlin state
parliament 14 are men. There is debate about this, none of it is new
(except for the percentage).

And so.. along with a lot of analysis and suggestions how to change it
(plus some starting to discuss whether or not there's need to change
this), some women in Germany started suggesting that there ARE women in
tech and can talk about it. Since we constantly run into the typical
reply "but I just couldn't find any competent woman on that subject"
another page is about to be set up proving the opposite.

And I remembered geekspeakr.com, a website set up some years ago that
provided female speakers on tech issues
(http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Geekspeakr,
http://www.linuxchix.org/2008/04/13/geekspeakrcom-women-who-speak-technical-topics.html
).
But it's gone! The website doesn't respond. Would anyone of you happen
to know what became of it?

I'm sure there's more such lists out there: if you know of any please
let me know - we just don't need to re-invent the wheel again.

Feeling a bit sysiphean lately,

A.
